One Sunny Afternoon~

Last Friday I made it out to see what I had missed over the week..

The ice miners have set up warming huts.

Although I don't know how warm they really get on the frozen sea!

The Iron Dog racers have come and gone.
You can see one of the trail stake between the grass stalks...
Nome had two local "boys" in the Pro Race,
one was part of the third place team,
the other began the leg from Nome to Fairbanks
with injuries from his crash on his way to Nome.
Engine trouble ended their quest in Galena.
It was a rough year for frostbite, crashes and one spotter plane accident.
But,...
there were some first time finishers,
and repeat winners as well.

It was a fun, eventful week inside at the pool,
but it sure felt good to soak up some Vitamin D!

It warmed to -7 this beautiful afternoon.
But, isn't everything better when it is sunny.....

  2. These are the beautiful images I have seen this year, but it sure does look cold out there.

  3. Good for the first time finishers!! -7 is downright mild for your area! Spring is on it's way and I look forward to seeing the first signs of it through your camera lens.

  4. I can't even imagine being out on that ice trying to mine. Are the people who do this usually the same group that mines out on the water in summer?
